Q1. “What are Synthesized Voices?”
A1. Synthesized Voices are free high quality synthesized voices used for announcing street names during voice guidance. If you have a Live Voice Guidance package, Synthesized Voices will announce the street names for each maneuver. Without a Live Voice Guidance package, you can use the Synthesized Voice, but street names are not spoken. Synthesized Voices are available exclusively on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPad 3G.
Q2. “Can I switch back to the current voice later if I decide I prefer it?”
A2. Yes. Following the download, you can switch between "Karen" (classic MotionX voice) and "Heather" (Synthesized Voice) from Settings > Voice & Sound.
Q3. “What's the benefit of Synthesized Voices?”
A3. The Synthesized Voice download includes the voice files for "Heather" which allows street names to be spoken with an active Live Voice Guidance package. The download is optional, but it is recommended if you have a Live Voice Guidance package so you can hear the name of the street to turn on to.
Q4. “ If I don't have a Live Voice Guidance package, what will change if I download the Synthesized Voice files?”
A4. If you choose to download and use "Heather" for voice guidance, you will hear the same prompts as you do now, but in a synthesized voice rather than the classic MotionX voice. If you wish to hear street names, you will need a Live Voice Guidance package. After downloading, you will have the option to switch between voices for "Karen" (classic MotionX voice) and "Heather" (Synthesized Voice).
Q5. “How large is the Synthesized Voices download?”
A5. The file size is 55 MB. You can download using 3G or Edge, but Wifi is recommended.
Q6. “Are there additional voice options?”
A6. Yes, multiple voice options are available via in-app purchase, including synthesized (with spoken street names) and natural (without street names) voices, accessible by selecting Voice & Sound from the Settings menu.
Q7. "I'm not hearing street names announced. What could be wrong?"
A7. Ensure you have updated MotionX-GPS Drive to the lastest version in the
App Store. At launch, you will be asked if you would like to download the free Synthesized Voice files. If you answer no, you can always download it later from Menu > Settings > Voice & Sounds. Once you have downloaded the Synthesized Voice files, you will see two voice options in Menu > Settings > Voice & Sounds, "Karen" which is the classic MotionX voice and "Heather" which is the synthesized voice. Ensure you have an active Live Voice Guidance package and have Heather selected to hear street names announced. If you still don't hear street names, select the Navigation Choices button before selecting Navigate to ensure you're navigating using Live Voice Guidance rather than Visual Navigation.
